Strengthen your own resilience tree and the forest community around you …
Human resilience begins with the individual. Like a link in a chain, strength comes from structural integrity of the individual unit. Unlike an inanimate link in a chain, however, individual humans influence the links around them. In this way, a resilient individual can carry resilience into a relationship, a family, a team, an organization, a surrounding community.
Ordinary Magic
Fortunately, given the importance of resilience, we all have some. Thought-leading researcher Ann Matsen calls resilience “ordinary magic.” She writes, “Resilience does not come from rare and special qualities, but from the everyday magic of ordinary, normative human resources.”
That’s the good news – we have all got some. But do we have enough? For example, we all know that some people appear to be more resilient than others. But why is that? More importantly, you might ask, What can I do to become more resilient? How can I both hope for the best and prepare for the worst?
When we are no longer able to change a situation, we are challenged to change ourselves.
